What is Gochara?
Gochara is the Vedic method of reading the planets' current transits against your birth chart, mainly counted from your natal Moon sign (Janma Rashi). A planet in a favourable house from your Moon tends to support you; in an unfavourable house it asks for patience. The Moon's daily movement gives two quick measures: Chandra bala (the Moon's house from your Moon sign) and Tara bala (the Moon's nakshatra counted from your birth star).
How this site calculates
- Sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa; whole-sign houses; mean lunar node for Rahu and Ketu.
- Planet positions from Astronomy Engine, accurate to well under a minute of arc for these purposes.
- Favourable houses from the Moon: Sun 3, 6, 10, 11 · Moon 1, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11 · Mars 3, 6, 11 · Mercury 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11 · Jupiter 2, 5, 7, 9, 11 · Venus 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 12 · Saturn, Rahu, Ketu 3, 6, 11.
- Vimshottari dasha from the Moon's nakshatra at birth (365.25-day years).
- Panchang tithi, nakshatra and yoga are given as at local sunrise, with their end times. Rahu Kalam, Yamaganda and Gulika divide daytime into eight parts.
- Vedha and Ashtakavarga refinements are not applied.
